Adventure Training, Duke of Edinburgh Silver Award Practice Expedition - A group of Cadets from Penrith and Appleby Squadrons spent a long weekend of walking and camping out overnight in the area around Kirkby Stephen. This was a practice expedition to help them prepare for a future assessed expedition conducted as part of each Cadet's work towards a Duke of Edinburgh Silver Award. |

Adventure Training - A group of Cadets from Penrith travelled south to the coast near Fleetwood to be led across the shore to explore shipwrecks revealed at low tide. |

Weapons Training / Live Firing - Cadets from Penrith travelled down to the halton Adventure Training Centre and were trained on and then went on to fire either the No. 8 rifle which fires .22 inch ammunition or the L98 A1 weapon which fires 5.56mm ammunition. |

Citizenship, Battle of Britain Memorial - To commemorate the Battle of Britain, Cadets and Staff from Penrith Squadron took part in a charity collection with the Penrith branch of the Royal Air Force Association and, the following day, took part in a memorial service at a local Church in Penrith again alongside members of the RAFA. |

Annual RAF Camp, Cosford - Each year Cadets get the opportunity to spend a week on an RAF station. This year the station was Cosford. Six Cadets and a staff member from penrith attended the camp and spent time with different sections on the station. These included: the Mechanical Training Section, Hangar Training Flight, Weapons and the Survival Equipment section. Cadets also enjoyed Air Experience Flying, weapons training, live firing, a day's visit to the RAF Museum at Cosford, a night exercise on the airfield and sporting activities including basketball, football, ice skating, swimming and ten pin bowling. |

Weapons Training - Kendal Squadron hosted Cadets from Penrith and elsewhere in the Wing who took part in a day of weapons training arranged by Wing staff. Depending on their experience and age, Cadets could undertake weapon training on the No. 8 rifle which fires .22 inch ammunition, take a weapon handling test for the No. 8 rifle, undergo training on the L98 A1 weapon which fires 5.56mm ammunition and take the weapon handling test for this rifle. |

Navigation Training - Carleton Hall Police HQ kindly allowed Cadets and Staff from the Squadron to use its ground for a GPS navigation exercise. Cadets, armed with radios and handheld Garmin GPS units, split into teams and competed with each other to find objects hidden throughout the Police HQ grounds. |

Aerospace Education - The North Region Aerospace Centre at RAF Linton-on-Ouse has resources that enable Cadets to study subjects on a suite of computers; to learn and use radios; and to use sophisticated air traffic control and flight simulators. A group of Cadets and staff from Penrith Squadron and other squadrons in the North East of England teamed-up to use the Resource Centre. |

Athletics - Two Cadets from Penrith Squadron represented Cumbria & North Lancashire in inter-wing athletics and did well, winning Wing Blues for their effort. One Cadet was part of the winning 4 x 100m relay team while the second Cadet placed fourth in the high jump. Overall, Cumbria and North Lancashire Wing was placed second! |

Ceremonial & Drill, Projects, Shooting, Sport - All of the Cadets on the Squadron travelled down to Kirkham Grammar School to take part in the annual Wing Training Day competitions. Our teams were judged in drill, shooting, aircraft modelling, aircraft recognition and photography. Although Penrith Squadron didn't win overall, we were close to the top in shooting, drill and aircraft modelling. First place at this year's Wing Training Day went to the neighbouring Cumbrian Squadron at Appleby. |

Sport, Wing Competition - This year's Wing Athletics Competition was held in Carlisle, making for a short trek up the M6 for Penrith athletes who were competing in track and field events. Although we didn't win overall, Penrith cadets had some good successes in specific events including the high jump and long jump, through which Cadets were selected to represent the Cumbria and North Lancashire Wing in future competition. |

Camps / Adventure - new Cadets at Penrith who are working towards their First Class Cadet classification attended a development weekend at Warcop accompanied by a senior NCO. All the Cadets who attended were able to take part in initiative exercises, initial expedition training, radio procedures, dry weapons training, shooting and a night fieldcraft exercise as well as having their skills at drill and caring for uniform polished. |

Shooting, No. 8 and L98 - The outdoor 25 metre barrack range at Weeton near Blackpool attracted a swarm of Cadets from Penrith and other Squadrons in Cumbria and North Lancashire keen to fire the No. 8 rifle and the L98 rifle. The event was run to give skilled Cadets a chance to try to attain recognition as a Wing Marksman as well as allowing others less skilled to gain experience. |
